A large, utterly delicious sweet-tart midseason dessert apple that bears reliable annual crops.
Description
A large, utterly delicious sweet-tart midseason dessert apple that bears reliable annual crops. Tree has an open growth habit (easy to prune) with fruit bearing on spurs. This is one of our very favorite fresh eating apples, and some have even detected a hint of strawberry in a crunchy bite. Possibly from Maine, or maybe from New York, this apple is also called Washington Strawberry. Brought to FEDCO’s John Bunker by Roy Slamm in South Solon, and has been made famous by John’s annual Common Ground Fair apple taste test, where it’s a common winner. Grows best with another apple variety for pollination.
